4 Ways to Get the Word Out about VBS

May 18, 2023 | Articles

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a super fun summer event that churches all across the country love to host. It’s a great way to spread the love of God and get families involved in your church community. However, with so many churches holding VBS, it can be tough to stand out. That’s why we put together some helpful advice to promote your VBS and attract more families.

Tip #1: Send Direct Mail

Direct mail is a great way to reach families and invite them to your VBS program. Make sure to target areas close to your church with lots of families. By sending to specific zip codes or a radius around your church, you can reach families in your area. Always include a QR code for families to register online as soon as they receive your card.

Tip #2: Show Your Generosity

Giving away free popcorn or ice cream to anyone who wants one at a local business, Kroger or Target is a generous and fun way to attract families. Have flyers and registration forms right at the table, with no strings attached. It’s a great way to introduce your church to those who may not have heard of it before.

Tip #3: Advertise Clearly

Be clear and concise when advertising your VBS program. Use a solid background and large block text on your banner, and place yard signs in high-traffic areas around your church and in family-filled neighborhoods. These are the essentials. We recommend not using VBS banner art provided by companies, as they’re too hard to read from the road.

Tip #4: Use Social

Build buzz around your VBS program on social media. Create a graphic or video that’s easy to share and run ads using Facebook or other social media sites. Encourage parents to post once they’ve registered. It’s one of the most effective ways to create a buzz. You can also offer a freebie to families, like a hat or shirt, for the first 5 kids who register and post about it online. Be sure to create a hashtag and share it.
